twirlers tips for those new to twirling

When you first start twirling there is several things to consider
1. What do you want to do with twirling?
     a. Majorettes
     b. Parades
     c. Competition only
     d. Parades and Competition
2.  What type of coach do you perfer?
     a. takes care of most things for you
     b. teaches routines then allow you freedom to choose competitions on your own
     c. self-taught
     d. parent taught
     e. videos

**Remember that coaches may teach a bit different and you may have to do some relearning if you switch.
**Names of tricks are not standard.

What should you expect from coaches?
1. Coaches will teach you the basics of twirling.
2. Basic March may be your first event.
3. As your skills increase, your coach will teach you a solo routine.
4. Once you start to master a basic routine, more advanced tricks will be added.

What are the competitions like?
1. The competitions tend to take place in schools or colleges.
2. There will be a table to pay for entrance fees or fees can be required at time of registration.     Check online schedule for details.
3. Twirlers may dress in school locker rooms.
4. Online schedules will list the time to arrive based on what event you will participate.
5.  You need to arrive on time. Just in case those running the events are on time.
6.  Don't expect your event to start on time.  It may be scheduled for 11:30 am and actually start later
7.  Remember to be patient.  Use extra time to practice.

What types of routine can you participate?

3. dress modeling
4. suit modeling
5. show routine
6. fancy strut
7. 2 baton
8. 3 baton

How much time should you devote to practicing?
A twirler should devete at least one hour per day to practicing.  You may need more based on the number of events, skill and desire to excell.

What other sports can help develop my twirling ability?
Gymnastics can help teach flexibility, strengthen muscles and teach bodywork skills.
Ballet can teach the spins, kicks and other bodyworks that brings your twirling to the next level.
